VOTING NOW CLOSED FOR ROUND 2
After another amazing response from our 2nd round of nominations, we shortlisted 3 projects. Voting for the second round for a share of £750 KinKind Giving Back Donation closed on 30th January. Here you can see the results..
Woodland Mindfulness received 57% of the votes
Only recently launched, Woodland Mindfulness is a project bringing mediation and mindfulness through nature to local people across the Bromley/Croydon area. Creator Bev currently runs 1:1 and small groups for all ages, but with a Giving Back donation hopes to grow the project further my supporting families of autistic children, using the power of nature, mediation and mindfulness to help them with the challenges they face. This project aims to involve both the children and the parents, so they can all gain the benefit of engaging with nature and the power of its healing. Bev also has ambitions to adapt this project to be suitable for local schools, helping those children affected by anxiety/low self-esteem
The Glade Community Garden received 28% of the votes
Started in February by volunteers in Rogerstone, South Wales, The Glade Community Garden is part of the Wild About Rogerstone initiative that raises awareness of the need to care for nature. The project works with local primary schools and groups such as Beavers & Brownies and regular events are held to encourage young people and their families to find about growing food from seed and nurturing wildlife with pollinator-friendly planting. Ongoing funding is needed to help develop an overgrown allotment and build a greenhouse to allow more produce to be grown. This will then be somewhere families can get involved in improving the environment and understanding the benefits of organic, locally grown produce.
Described as a “lifeline” by existing users, Ushaw Moor Community Garden is a green oasis entirely run by volunteers in a low-income ex-mining town. It’s a thriving open space for people of all ages to engage in a range of activities, including fruit and vegetable growing. Volunteers would love to use further funds to encourage even more locals from different backgrounds into the garden to learn about the benefits of a nature, and growing and eating fresh fruit and vegetables. This includes plans to offer small craft activities for children and a space for intergenerational activities to support wellbeing and skills sharing. Existing volunteers have highlighted the importance of the space for their own wellbeing because of the nature-based activities, and the community aspect of the garden has helped the confidence of younger volunteers.
